Shannon cited de los Santos’ extraordinary record of collaboration with both the League Board and staff, and noted his scholarly vision, enthusiasm for excellence, commitment to the community college movement, and superior operational skills.

Gerardo E. de los Santos expressed delight in his selection and indicated he would continue his efforts to carry on the League’s endeavor to warrant the assessment by Theodore Marchese, the veteran editor of Change, that “the League is the single most vital organization in higher education today.” He also expressed his intense interest in working in collaboration with the American Association of Community Colleges, the more than 800 League Alliance colleges, sister higher education organizations, and the League’s more than 140 corporate partners, to best position the League to serve as a catalyst, project incubator, and experimental laboratory for community colleges around the world.
